Bayaning Tunay: Top Filipino artists salute medical frontliners with a song
Twenty-five Filipino artists unite in a special song called “Bayaning Tunay” to honor the many frontliners who have become today’s real-life heroes.
Released by Star Music, “Bayaning Tunay” is written by Ogie Alcasid, and performed by himself, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Gary Valenciano, Lea Salonga, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Pops Fernandez, Martin Nievera, Lani Misalucha, Noel Cabangon, Piolo Pascual, Bamboo, Ely Buendia, Rico Blanco, Erik Santos, Christian Bautista, Jed Madela, Nyoy Volante, Angeline Quinto, KZ Tandingan, Morissette, Klarisse, Janine Berdin, Jason Dy, Sam Concepcion and Lara Maigue.
It is meant to give tribute to the frontliners’ unrelenting bravery and commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Last year when we lost our Dad to covid, I witnessed virtually how everyone at the hospital were working round the clock in order for them to save as many lives as they could. To all of you, we want to tell you that we will never forget you and will be forever grateful for your service,” said Ogie, composer of the song.
This initiative was shared with Dr. Tony Leachon, chairman of Kilusang Kontra Covid (KilKoVid), a civil society group formed in Quezon City to aid the QC government in its COVID-19 pandemic efforts. KilKovid then relayed it to the health care workers sector via Philippine College of Physicians’ Dr. Maricar Limpin to keep them posted of this impending support.
The song is arranged by Homer Flores, mastered by Tim Recla, and overall produced by ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo, with Ogie and Gary V as production consultants.
It was formally launched on “ASAP Natin ‘To” on December 19, 2021 and is now available on music streaming services around the globe.
